Health Care Provider Coverage Maps
Analyzed the geographic coverage within specified distances of the health care providers office locations and provided population figures based on Census tracts.
School Attendance Zones Demographic Analysis
Conducted a demographic analysis based upon Census data for each public school in Leon County, Florida for the 2003-2004 school year attendance zone boundaries. Data reported included adult education levels, household characteristics, income and wealth, household income distribution, and population variables.
LandView Training
Designed and facilitated a 4 hour workshop and training materials for LandView, a mapping and database program developed by the federal government. LandView is a desktop mapping system that searches and maps information from the U.S. Census Bureau, EPA, and USGS.
Homestead Neighborhood
Located and identified census block groups using streets as boundaries for a neighborhood in Homestead, Florida for use in a demographic study.
Guadalajara Census Project (GCP)
The purpose of Florida State University’s GCP was to create an easily accessible resource for historical research, classroom teaching, genealogical research, and to provide graduate student training. My involvement included data preparation, attributing block and cuartel numbers to the database of the Guadalajara base map, and producing custom hardcopy maps of the study area.
Metro North Neighborhood
The purpose for the Metro North Neighborhood study was to obtain empirical data on the general demographic characteristics for the Metro North Community Development Corporation. Produced a profile using the Census 2000 blocks for the Metro North Neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida.
Juvenile Justice Mapping Project
Florida A&M University’s Institute on Urban Policy & Commerce commissioned me to map unemployment rates, poverty levels, median income, female head of household, percent of owner-occupied housing, and drop out rates for selected cities in Florida for their juvenile justice project.
Gretna Churches
Florida A&M University’s School of Nursing produced a report on the effectiveness of using African American churches to disseminate AIDS information. As a part of that report, I created a custom map showing the visited churches locations in Gretna, Florida.
Agriculture Project
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services conducted a study of agrichemical use and potable water wells in the middle Suwannee River Basin. As a part of that effort, I produced a GIS inventory of the crops, animal producers, and related agrichemical tables. I also created metadata to conform with Federal Geographic Data Committee’s standards.
Havana Herald Newspaper Article
Authored a newspaper article entitled “Household Incomes Rise in Havana” published in the June 13, 2002, edition of the Havana Herald using Census 2000 data. Even though Havana’s household income increased far more than the national average from 1990 to 2000, it still lags behind the national, state, and county averages.
Florida Uninsured Project
The Florida legislature created the Florida Health Insurance Study (FHIS). This multi-year project was intended to provide a detailed understanding of the exceedingly complex issues of un-insurance and coverage. To communicate the results I produced county maps of uninsured rates in Florida by zip code for the manual, and designed and coded an accompanying interactive CD including an ArcExplorer project with the datasets used for the Agency for Health Care Administration.
Nursing Homes Closures
The purpose of the nursing home closure analysis was to identify the name and number of available beds within each facility in relation to the nursing home slated to be closed by the Agency for Health Care Administration. The project required maps and tables to be produced quickly due to the political and emotional nature of the issue.
Language Map
The purpose for the language map was to provide the Agency for Health Care Administration data from the 2000 Census showing the limited English proficient population in Florida in order to comply with the Office of Civil Rights policy guidance.
ERPgis Application
The purpose of the ERPgis application was to provide data and analysis to meet the needs of the Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) staff based upon ERP Rules & Regulations. The ERPgis application involved the Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Water Management Districts, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. I served as user coordinator for the ERPgis Development Team where responsibilities included developing the specifications of the application after summarizing the needs of the user community through a series of facilitated meetings throughout the state. Additional responsibilities included acquiring, creating, and modifying Arc/Info coverages and ArcView shapefiles.
