What is GIS?
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a computer technology that combines geographic data (the locations of man-made and natural features on the earth’s surface) and other types of information (names, addresses, classifications, and much more) to generate visual maps and reports.
GIS offers the following capabilities:
statistical analysis - ability to generate statistics, including statistics based on a user-defined geographic region
geocoding and global positioning satellite (GPS) - ability to identify a particular location with standard map coordinates
database management system - standard database manipulation capabilities; storing, querying, joining, appending, updating, restructuring, and relating tables and fields
spatial decision support system - ability to analyze geographic data to support decisions
multimedia, hypertext & hot links - ability to use sound, video, and images and provide interactive links among various types of media
spatial modeling & forecasting - ability to model how a process interacts with a specific geographic constraints over time
Carol Cody GIS Services offers custom data and mapping services including:
- acquiring & creating geographic data

Recent Projects
- Health Care provider coverage analysis and maps for several state associations. Analyzed the geographic coverage within specified distances of the office locations and provided population figures based on Census tracts.
- Map review for a state large-scale assessment program.
- Demographic analysis for individual schools in a district. Data items included income, educational attainment, and percent of single parent households with children.
- Identifying US Census block groups for a neighborhood demographic study.
